Cocktail: Martinez

Richard. He's a heckuva generous guy.
He keeps his friends well stocked with great summer music, single-handedly turns out delicious three-course dinners, and pours one mean cocktail. I'm passing on his recipe for the Martinez, a drink that should definitely grace your patio this summer.

makes one cocktail

2 oz. Old Tom–style gin

1 oz. Italian red vermouth

1⁄2 tsp. Luxardo maraschino liqueur

2 dashes bitters (preferably Bitter Truth Aromatic Blend)

Strip of lemon peel

In a large glass, combine gin, vermouth, maraschino liqueur, bitters, and 2 cups ice. Stir for 15 seconds and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Twist a strip of lemon peel over the top and drop it in.
